Right… before I start this review, I feel like a disclaimer is needed.
This is not my usual genre BUT it was on my TBR soooo …
If you’ve been following my reviews for a while, you’ll know my Kindle is normally full of psychological thrillers where everyone is lying, someone has gone missing and I spend half the book accusing every single character of murder.
So a romance?
Very unlike me.
That said… I actually really enjoyed this.
Would I give it five stars? No.
But that’s not because it isn’t a great book. It’s simply because romance isn’t what I naturally gravitate towards. If this is your favourite genre, I can completely understand why you’d probably be handing out five stars without hesitation.
The story follows Daisy, a fashion design student whose life takes an unexpected turn when she reconnects with someone who once played a huge role in her life. What follows is a heartwarming story about second chances, growing up, friendships and discovering that sometimes the people meant to be in your life have a funny way of finding their way back.
What I really liked was how easy this book was to read.
There were no complicated twists to keep track of, no huge mystery to solve and no moments where I had to stop and think, “Hang on… who’s this again?” Instead, it was simply an enjoyable story that flowed naturally from beginning to end.
It also wasn’t overly cheesy, which I had secretly been worried about. The relationships felt genuine, the characters were likeable and there were plenty of moments that made me smile without making me cringe.
Sometimes that’s exactly the sort of book you need.
If you’re looking for something comforting, wholesome and easy to get lost in for a few evenings, this absolutely ticks those boxes.
Will it replace psychological thrillers as my favourite genre?
Absolutely not.
Will I be reading more books like this between all the murder and mayhem?
Actually… probably yes.
Final verdict
A lovely, feel-good read with charming characters, a sweet love story and none of the over-the-top drama I was expecting. It may not have converted me into a full-time romance reader, but it definitely reminded me that stepping outside my usual genre can be well worth it.
A very deserving four stars from me.
