My Review No Spoilers Promise

Firstly, I’d just like to say how grateful I am that I don’t actually have a sister-in-law… because after reading this, family get-togethers would have become just a little bit awkward. 😂

Once again, I found myself gravitating back to AJ Carter, and by now I’ve accepted that’s just what happens when I need a book that’s easy to read, impossible to put down and guaranteed to keep me entertained.

This one follows a woman whose husband’s sister is released from prison after years away. At first, everything seems to be going surprisingly well, but it isn’t long before living under the same roof becomes far more unsettling than anyone could have imagined. As tensions rise, she starts questioning who she can trust and whether anyone will believe what’s really happening behind closed doors.

As always, AJ Carter wastes absolutely no time getting into the story. Within the first few chapters I was hooked and telling myself I’d stop after “just one more chapter.” (Spoiler… I didn’t.)

One of the things I love most about AJ Carter’s books is that they’re never overcomplicated. The writing flows so naturally that you fly through the pages, but at the same time the suspense just keeps building. Every chapter gives you another little piece of the puzzle whilst making you question everything you thought you knew.

The characters were brilliantly written too. I found myself constantly changing my opinion about people and second-guessing who I should be rooting for. That’s exactly what I want from a psychological thriller.

And, because it wouldn’t be an AJ Carter book without it… there were twists. Lots of them. Every time I thought I’d worked things out, AJ Carter politely reminded me that I hadn’t.

Final verdict

Another brilliant psychological thriller that reminded me exactly why AJ Carter has become one of my favourite authors. Fast paced, addictive and packed with suspense, this is the perfect book if you’re looking for a thriller you can easily finish in a weekend.

If you’ve never read an AJ Carter book before, this would be a great place to start.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to appreciate my complete lack of sisters-in-law… long may it continue. 📚😂👀
