My Review No Spoilers Promise
After absolutely loving The Woman in Cabin 10, I was both excited and nervous about picking up the sequel.
Let’s be honest, sequels can be risky. Sometimes they feel unnecessary, sometimes they don’t quite capture what made the first book special, and sometimes you’re left wondering why the author didn’t just leave things alone.
That was exactly my concern going into this book.
At first, I wasn’t entirely sure how Ruth Ware was going to link everything back together. The story starts in a completely different setting and for a little while I found myself wondering where it was all heading.
Then it clicked.
And from that point onwards, I was completely invested.
Lo Blacklock returns in another high pressure situation, this time surrounded by wealth, secrets and people who may not be telling the truth. What starts as an exciting work opportunity quickly becomes something much darker, and before long Lo finds herself caught up in another mystery where trusting the wrong person could have serious consequences.
One of the things I love most about Lo as a character is that she feels real. She doesn’t have all the answers, she makes mistakes and she reacts like an actual person would when faced with some truly bizarre situations. That makes it so easy to become invested in her story.
The setting was also fantastic. Ruth Ware has a talent for taking glamorous locations and making them feel unsettling. There is always this underlying feeling that something isn’t quite right, and that tension runs through the entire book.
I found myself constantly questioning people’s motives and changing my theories as new information came to light. Just when I thought I had worked something out, another twist would appear and send me back to square one.
What impressed me most was how naturally the story connected back to the original book. Once the pieces started falling into place, it all felt very clever and well thought out rather than forced.
Final verdict
A brilliant sequel that proves lightning really can strike twice. It successfully brings back a character I loved whilst delivering a completely fresh mystery that kept me hooked from start to finish.
If you enjoyed The Woman in Cabin 10, I would highly recommend picking this up. Just don’t be surprised if you find yourself reading far later than you intended.
Let’s be friends on Goodreads
I spent the first few chapters wondering how this was connected to book one and the rest of the book wondering why I hadn’t trusted Ruth Ware to know exactly what she was doing 📚👀😂
