My Review No Spoilers Promise

This is one of those books that proves first impressions are not always right.

I’ll be honest, it took me a little while to get into this one. At the beginning I wasn’t completely hooked and for a while I wondered whether it was going to live up to all the hype I’d heard over the years.

Thankfully, I stuck with it.

Because once this book gets its claws into you, it really doesn’t let go.

The story follows travel journalist Lo Blacklock as she boards a luxury cruise to witness the Northern Lights. Sounds idyllic, right? Well, this is a thriller, so naturally things take a turn. After witnessing what appears to be a woman thrown overboard in the middle of the night, Lo finds herself in an impossible situation when everyone insists that no passenger is missing.

What follows is a brilliantly tense mystery that had me constantly questioning what was real, what wasn’t and who could be trusted.

One of my favourite things about this book was the setting. Being trapped on a cruise ship in the middle of nowhere creates such a claustrophobic atmosphere. There is nowhere to run, nowhere to hide and nowhere to escape. The isolation adds a whole extra layer of tension that makes every interaction feel more significant.

As the story progressed, I found myself becoming more and more invested. The suspense builds steadily throughout and there were several moments where I genuinely had no idea what was going to happen next.

I also loved how the story kept making me question my own theories. Every time I thought I had worked something out, something else would happen that completely changed my mind.

By the end, I was flying through the pages and wondering why I hadn’t been hooked from the very first chapter.

Final verdict

A gripping locked room style thriller with an unforgettable setting, plenty of suspense and enough twists to keep you guessing right until the end.

It may have taken me a little while to get into it, but once I did, I absolutely loved it and can completely understand why so many people recommend this book.

Let’s be friends on Goodreads

Turns out being trapped on a cruise ship with a potential murderer is considerably less relaxing than the brochure suggests 📚🚢👀😂
