My Review No Spoilers Promise

When I picked this book up, I was still not feeling great mentally and was struggling to properly immerse myself in reading. I found myself picking books up and putting them down again without really getting invested, so I decided to play it safe and go back to a familiar author.

Then I spotted that this was a trilogy.

Honestly, that was probably all the convincing I needed.

There is something comforting about picking up a book from an author you know and trust, and Daniel Hurst did exactly what I needed him to do with this one. From the very beginning, I found myself becoming invested in the story, the characters and the mystery surrounding everything that was unfolding.

The premise immediately grabs your attention and creates that feeling that something is not quite right. As the story develops, the tension builds steadily and keeps you questioning people’s motives and intentions. I found myself constantly changing my mind about what I thought was happening, which is always a good sign in a psychological thriller.

One thing I really enjoy about Daniel Hurst’s writing is that his books are incredibly easy to read without ever feeling simplistic. The chapters flow naturally, the pacing is spot on and there is always enough happening to keep you turning the pages.

This book also arrived at exactly the right time for me. It reminded me why I love reading thrillers in the first place. For the first time in a while, I found myself genuinely wanting to pick my Kindle up rather than feeling like I should be reading.

And knowing there were two more books waiting for me at the end made the whole experience even better.

Final verdict

A gripping, addictive thriller that completely pulled me out of my reading slump and reminded me why Daniel Hurst is one of my go to authors. Great characters, plenty of suspense and a story that kept me invested from beginning to end.

If you enjoy psychological thrillers and love finding a series you can immediately continue with, this is definitely one to add to your list.

Finding a trilogy when you’re in a reading slump is basically the bookworm equivalent of finding a twenty pound note in an old handbag 📚😂👀
