My Review No Spoilers Promise
This is one of those books that I feel deserves a little explanation alongside the rating.
I gave The Woman at No. 3 four stars because I genuinely enjoyed it. The plot was interesting, the mystery kept me engaged, and I was always curious enough to want to know what was going to happen next. However, it just did not quite have that extra something that would have pushed it into five star territory for me.
If I am being completely honest, I do not think the book was entirely to blame.
Around the time I was reading this, I was not feeling particularly great mentally and I found it difficult to concentrate on reading in general. There were days when I barely picked my Kindle up at all, and I struggled to properly lose myself in stories the way I normally do. So I think my experience of this book was probably influenced by that.
Despite that, every time I came back to it, I still found the story easy to pick up again. The plot was well paced, the writing was accessible, and there was enough intrigue to keep me interested throughout. I never felt lost or confused, and I always wanted to know a little bit more about what was going on.
The mystery unfolds at a nice pace and there is a constant sense that there is more happening beneath the surface than first appears. I particularly enjoyed how the story gradually revealed information rather than throwing everything at you at once. It kept me engaged without feeling overly complicated.
Would I have enjoyed it even more if I had been in a better headspace? Quite possibly. In fact, I suspect this might have been a five star read for me at a different time.
Final verdict
A really enjoyable thriller with a strong plot and enough twists and intrigue to keep you turning the pages. It did not completely wow me, but that says more about where my head was at the time than the quality of the book itself.
Definitely one I would recommend to thriller fans looking for an engaging and easy to follow read.
