My Review No Spoilers Promise
This is one of those books that I have genuinely struggled to review because, if I am being completely honest, I am still a little confused about what actually happened.
Now, before Alice Feeney fans come for me, I can absolutely see why people enjoy her books. She is clearly a talented writer and there were parts of this story that had me intrigued. The problem was that I spent a lot of my reading time trying to piece everything together rather than getting lost in the story itself.
Usually I pick up storylines quite quickly and can keep track of different characters, timelines and plot points without too much trouble. With this one, however, I found myself having to stop and think quite a lot. At times I felt like I was missing something important, and by the end I was still left with a few questions floating around in my head.
The story definitely has mystery and suspense, and there were moments where I wanted to keep reading to find out what was going on. I just never quite reached that point where everything clicked into place for me.
The more I think about it, the more I wonder whether I might have enjoyed this more reading on my kindle. Sometimes I get distracted when listening and leave gaps in between picking it up and I do wonder if that would have helped me follow everything a little better.
Final verdict
This was not a bad book by any means, it just was not the easiest read for me personally. If you enjoy complex psychological thrillers with lots of layers and don’t mind having to concentrate, you may get much more out of it than I did.
For me, it was an interesting read but one that left me scratching my head more than once.
