My Review No Spoilers Promise

Where do I even start with this one?

After absolutely loving the first book, I was a little nervous about jumping into the sequel. We have all been there. You finish a brilliant book and then worry that the follow up is going to undo all the things you loved about it.

Thankfully, Laura Dave had other plans.

I read this entire book in a single day. A SINGLE DAY. I honestly could not put it down. Every spare minute I had was spent reaching for my Kindle because I just had to know what was going to happen next. A whole new meaning to a Sunday reset day and yes my cleaning took a back seat 😉

What I loved most was how naturally the story continued. It never felt forced or far fetched, which can sometimes happen with sequels. Instead, it felt like a genuine continuation of the story and characters I had already become invested in. Laura Dave managed to expand the story whilst keeping everything believable and engaging.

The pacing was fantastic. There was always something happening that made me want to keep reading, but it never felt rushed. The suspense builds beautifully throughout and keeps you questioning everything without ever becoming confusing.

I also loved spending more time with the characters. By this point, they felt familiar, and it was great to see their story develop further. The emotional elements are just as strong as the mystery, which is one of the reasons I enjoy Laura Dave’s writing so much.

And once again, I found myself constantly trying to work things out, changing my mind every few chapters and second guessing my own theories.

Final verdict

A brilliant sequel that proves lightning can strike twice. It builds perfectly on the first book, keeps you invested from start to finish and somehow manages to feel both familiar and fresh at the same time.

If you enjoyed the first book, stop what you are doing and read this immediately. Just make sure you have a free day available because you may end up finishing it in one sitting like I did.

Apparently my definition of “I’ll just read a chapter” is now an entire book 📚👀😅
