My Review (No Spoilers, Promise)

I went into The Lie with high expectations. Mysterious disappearance, secrets everywhere, multiple POVs… all the ingredients I usually love. And while this book definitely had potential, it didn’t quite stick the landing for me.

The story starts strong and immediately pulls you into that uneasy feeling. I liked the dual perspectives and how the tension is built around what people say versus what they don’t say. However… this one felt like it took the scenic route. A very long scenic route.

At several points, I nearly DNF’d it.  Not because it was terrible, but because it felt stretched out. The pacing dragged, and I kept thinking this could’ve been a much shorter book with the same impact. As an audiobook, that feeling was even more noticeable when certain sections seemed to repeat themselves without moving the story forward.

That said, I did finish it (because quitting is personal failure, obviously), and while there were moments that kept me listening, it never fully won me over. It’s a decent psychological thriller, just not one that blew me away.

Final verdict:
If you enjoy slow-burn thrillers and don’t mind a longer listen, this could still work for you. But if you prefer your suspense tight, fast-paced, and punchy, this one might test your patience a little.
