My Review No Spoilers Promise

Okay first things first, I am very glad I did not read this earlier in the year when I was going through my own surgery because I think I would have absolutely spiralled. Not plastic surgery unfortunately, but still… the timing matters with books like this and I am glad I read it when I did.

This one pulled me in straight away and had that slightly unsettling edge running through it from the start. AJ Carter has a way of taking a normal situation and making it feel just uncomfortable enough that you know something is not quite right, and you need to keep reading to figure out what is going on.

I found myself completely hooked again, flying through chapters without even realising. It is such an easy read but still keeps that tension building in the background the whole time. The characters felt believable, the pacing worked really well, and it never felt like it dragged or overcomplicated things.

And then the ending. I actually gasped out loud. I wish I was exaggerating but I am not. It completely caught me off guard and I am pretty sure I woke Ben up in the night which says everything you need to know.

Final verdict
Another five star read and further proof that AJ Carter just does not miss for me. If you like addictive, slightly unsettling thrillers with twists that properly shock you, definitely add this to your list.
