My Review No Spoilers Promise
This one will always make me laugh because I was reading The Mother in Law whilst on a two week USA holiday… with my actual mother in law. The irony was not lost on me at all.
This was a slower read for me, but not because of the book. Our days were so jam packed that by the time we got back I was exhausted, straight to sleep, and barely had time to read. So this ended up being my bedtime, airport and “grab five minutes when I can” kind of book.
Despite that, every time I picked it up I was straight back into it. AJ Carter just has that way of writing where it is easy to read, easy to follow, but still completely gripping. I have said it before and I will say it again, his books are such easy reads but always deliver a twist you do not expect.
The story builds that quiet tension where you know something is not quite right, and it keeps you guessing the whole way through. It never feels overcomplicated, just really well paced and engaging.
And the twist… again… did not see it coming. I love that feeling when a book genuinely catches you off guard and this absolutely delivered.
Final verdict
Another five star read for me and solid proof that I am fully on my AJ Carter hook. If you want something addictive, easy to read and full of unexpected twists, this is definitely one to add to your list.
