I picked this up because AJ Carter has around twenty standalone thrillers and honestly at that point it felt rude not to try another one. A dangerous decision because this book quickly took over my life.
I even gave up recovery time and napping to keep reading which is a serious commitment and should not be taken lightly. Once I started this, I just wanted to finish it and find out what on earth was going to happen next.
What really impressed me is that the whole story centres around just three main characters, yet it never feels slow or boring. The tension stays high the entire time and the characters feel sharp, believable and very well written. The story constantly keeps you on your toes and just when you think you have things figured out, everything shifts again.
And the ending. WOW. I was absolutely not expecting that twist and I love when a thriller genuinely manages to surprise me.
Final verdict
If you enjoy fast paced, character driven thrillers with twists that make your jaw drop, this is definitely one to add to your list. Just be prepared to sacrifice sleep and possibly your nap schedule.
