When I’m not reading …

When I am not reading, there is a very high chance you will find me surrounded by paper, stickers, scraps, washi tape and a slightly worrying number of pens. Art journalling has quietly become my favourite way to unwind, reset and switch my brain off without feeling like I have to try too hard.

Reading feeds my mind, but art journalling feels like it feeds everything else.

There is something incredibly therapeutic about opening a blank page and knowing there are no rules. No pressure to be good at drawing, no expectations, no right or wrong way to do it. Some days my pages are messy, layered and chaotic. Other days they are simple and soft and full of calming colours. Either way, the process itself is what matters most.

I love that art journaling gives me a way to express how I am feeling without having to find the perfect words. Sometimes I do not want to write long journal entries or analyse my thoughts. Sometimes I just want to glue paper to paper, add some colour, and let my brain rest. It is creativity without pressure, which feels especially important during busy or overwhelming seasons of life.

It has become a little pocket of calm in my routine. A quiet moment to slow down, breathe and make something just for the joy of making it. No deadlines, no expectations, no performance. Just me, my journal and whatever creative energy I have that day.

I have also started sharing parts of my art journalling on YouTube, which feels like inviting people into that calm space with me. Filming the process has made me slow down even more and appreciate the tiny details. The sound of paper, the movement of scissors, the layering of textures. It all feels very peaceful and grounding, and I love the idea that someone else might press play and feel a little calmer too.

For me, art journalling is not about perfection. It is about expression, rest and giving my brain somewhere soft to land when life feels loud.

And honestly, it is one of the best feelings in the world closing a finished page, knowing you made something just because you wanted to. ✨
