My Review (No Spoilers, Just Pure Enjoyment)

Well… it happened again. After finishing His Double Life, I realised AJ Carter has loads of standalone thrillers on Kindle Unlimited and honestly … YAY doesn’t even cover it. I jumped straight into The Family Secret and was immediately hooked.

This book was such an easy read. The kind that flows effortlessly, doesn’t overcomplicate things, and still keeps you fully invested. It wasn’t overly scary or intense, but it didn’t need to be because the tension and intrigue did all the heavy lifting.

And let’s talk about those moments. There were a few genuine “OMG … wait, WHAT?” points where I had to pause for a second and mentally rewind. I love when a book sneaks those in without being ridiculous or over-the-top, and this one nailed that balance perfectly.

It’s clear AJ Carter knows how to write a solid psychological thriller: accessible, twisty, and ridiculously bingeable. Two books in, and I’m officially a fan.

Final verdict:
A fast, gripping standalone thriller that proves AJ Carter is now firmly on my radar. Easy to read, satisfying, and sprinkled with just enough shock to keep things exciting. Another very deserved 5 stars and yes, I’ll absolutely be reading more.
