My Review (No Spoilers, Just Love)

This is book four in Michelle Davies’ DC Maggie Neville series, and let me just say it absolutely delivered. Even though I read the first three books a long time ago, this one still pulled me straight back into the story and reminded me why I enjoyed the series in the first place.

Now, full honesty: I do wish I’d refreshed my memory on the earlier books before jumping in. Not because this one was confusing or badly written purely because there are callbacks and character depth that hit harder when everything’s fresh. That one’s on me, not the book.

I read this on Kindle Unlimited, and while it took me a little longer than usual to finish, that had nothing to do with the story itself. I’d just had surgery and was feeling wiped out, so my reading stamina wasn’t at its peak. Even so, I still found myself really enjoying this one whenever I picked it up.

The plot is gripping, the pacing is solid, and it has that satisfying, well-constructed crime vibe that keeps you invested without feeling overwhelming. It’s one of those books where you feel like you’re in safe hands with the author she knows exactly what she’s doing.

Final verdict:
A strong, engaging entry in the series and a well-earned 5-star read. If you’re new to DC Maggie Neville, I’d recommend starting from book one. If you’re returning like me… maybe do a quick recap first but either way, Dead Guilty is absolutely worth your time.
