My Review (No Spoilers, Pinky Promise)
Let’s start with this: something felt off from the very beginning. And honestly? That’s exactly how I like it. I listened to this one on Audible, and from the start there was that quiet, creeping sense that not everything was as it seemed.
Now, I’ll be real, this book did drag a little in places. There were moments where I felt like we were circling the tension instead of charging straight into it, and I initially had this sitting closer to a 3-star read.
But then… things started clicking.
I managed to work out part of what was going on (go me, briefly), which made me feel very smug right up until the ending completely blindsided me. Did I expect that? Absolutely not. And I love when a book humbles me like that.
Also, I just genuinely enjoy a K L Slater book. There’s something about her writing that keeps me hooked even when the pacing slows a bit. The atmosphere, the unease, the subtle red flags everywhere it all works.
Final verdict:
A slow-burn psychological thriller that rewards your patience. Even if you start to think you’ve figured it out, My Husband’s Next Door still has a few tricks up its sleeve. The ending alone bumped this up to a solid 4 stars and I don’t regret a single minute of listening.
